It’s Christmas morning for lacrosse fans as the first NCAA Men’s DI game of the season between Vermont and Furman wrapped up a couple minutes ago. There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the America East Conference this offseason with the likes of Albany and Stony Brook bringing back talented rosters, but Ian MacKay and the Catamounts of Vermont will have something to say about that.
Last off-season UVM was gearing up to be a two-headed monster in 2017 with Ian MacKay and Cam Milligan leading the way but an injury to MacKay derailed that train before it even left the station. Now it’s 2018, Milligan is gone, but MacKay is back and in a big way. Tonight he led the Catamounts with 4 goals and doing so in classic Ian MacKay fashion. He has arguably the softest hands in the country and his deft sticks skills are amongst the best as well. Nonetheless, I’m amped up to see #45 back out on the field and year two of the Chris Feifs era got off to a great start tonight with a 12-6 win against Furman.
A taste of what to expect out of #45 this spring:
