In the latest chronicle of QuickStick Q&A’s we spoke with Montana State’s Louis Richman. Louis is a senior attackman for the Bobcats who have established themselves as a perennial contender in the MCLA DII. Richman has been a key contributor for MSU from the moment he stepped on campus, earning All-Conference accolades in each of his first three seasons and All-American honors in the past two. With a talented returning cast and a schedule that ranks amongst the most difficult in the MCLA, the Bobcats are poised for a big 2018.

What are your thoughts on the future of MCLA DII and the shifting landscape with the emergence of the NAIA?
The emergence of the NAIA creates an opportunity for other schools to make an impact in the MCLA. Some conferences have been completely reshaped, and it will be interesting to see what teams take over the MCLA DII in the coming years.
Make the case for why your team could go deep in the postseason (conference or national).
In my four years here, this is the most balanced team we have coming into the season. We have standout players at every position, and our young players are hungry to make an impact and win.
What is your favorite part about playing MCLA Lacrosse?
I am able to play competitive lacrosse and have a flexible college schedule at the same time. Traveling around the country with the lads is also one of the best parts of playing in the MCLA.
What game is everyone most looking forward to this season?
I’d say everyone is excited about our packed Spring Break schedule where we take on three top 10 teams. That being said, the most important game on our schedule every year is when we face the University of Montana Grizzlies. This will be the first time we play them at home since my freshman year when we lost in overtime, so yeah we are looking to come out with the W in that one.
Toughest matchup you’ve ever faced? (can be team matchup, or personal in college or HS)
I grew up on the east coast, and in the summer after my junior year of high school we played Boys Latin. It was a learning experience to say the least. St. Thomas of the MCLA is also a stacked team, and they were a tough matchup in our game against them last year.
Favorite lacrosse memory?
Winning the RMLC DII championship in 2016 and traveling to Irvine, CA to play at nationals.
Who’s the funniest guy in your locker room/team?
I’d have to go with stud defenseman Blake Greener, he always lightens the mood on team trips and in the huddles. The kid is a loose rig for sure.
What’s your go-to pump-up song?
“Gucci Gang” – Lil Pump.
If you played another sport, what would it be?
Basketball.
If you had one last meal to eat, what would it be?
Probably two pizza slices with some good New York flop and a Sprite.
Who was your favorite athlete when you were a kid?
Ichiro Suzuki, Keith Van Horn, Mikey Powell.
