“Another day, another QuickStick Q&A.” I’m pretty sure that’s how the saying goes. Nonetheless, we recently caught up with St. John’s (MN) junior midfielder Carter Scrimshaw. Carter and the Johnnies are a perennial contender in MCLA DII. Fun fact, probably the biggest win of Shears’ and I’s college career came in 2015 when we went up to Minnesota and upset the Johnnies who were ranked #2 in the nation at the time. Aight, enough nostalgia. Carter is looking to lead the Johnnies to another strong season in 2018. Scrimshaw earned All-Conference and All-American Honors in 2017 as St. John’s made it to the MCLA Quarterfinals before falling in a one-goal game to eventual champion Concordia Irvine. Here’s what Carter had to say about the season ahead:
—
A one-goal loss in the quarterfinals against the eventual MCLA DII National Champions ended your season in 2017. With a preseason rank of #6 in the country, make the case for why your team could go deep in the postseason once again (conference or national).
We had a really young team last year who was still transitioning into playing at the college level and especially the strength of our schedule. Those guys class gained a lot of experience and leadership this fall with our entire junior class studying abroad so I expect that to be a difference maker in critical situations when nationals roll around.
