QuickStick Q&A: San Diego State’s Eric Dodds

They just keep on coming right? We’ve got another QuickStick Q&A, this time with San Diego State’s Eric Dodds. Eric is a senior Business Major who hails from Los Gatos, California. Dodds has been on the Aztecs roster and an impact player from the second he stepped on campus as a freshman. A defensive midfielder, Eric plays a gritty style, in between the lines. His play earned 2nd Team-All SLC honors last spring as a junior and this season is hoping to lead the Aztecs to the SLC Tournament. Take a peek into Eric’s life at SDSU!

You guys compete in the SLC, arguably the toughest conference in the MCLA. With a big win over USC to start the year, what’re the expectations for this squad/make your case for a postseason (either conference or national) run?

The win over USC was huge because we didn’t play well, but battled it out and found a way to win. Huge way to start the season coming from behind to pull it out in front of our fans. To accomplish our team goal of making the SLC playoffs we will need to execute at a higher level in order to beat the best teams in the SLC.

What is your favorite part about playing MCLA Lacrosse?

I’ve been an athlete my whole life and couldn’t imagine my life without sports. I came to SDSU for the weather, women, waves and obviously to get a great degree – being able to be a collegiate athlete was the cherry on top.

What game is everyone most looking forward to this season?

Personally, I have U of Arizona circled on my calendar. All of our league games are huge, but we have a history with Arizona and we’re looking to reclaim bragging rights after losses the last two years.

__

Toughest matchup you’ve ever faced? (can be team matchup, or personal in college or HS)

GCU last year. That team was phenomenal. They came out and stomped us by outworking and out executing us in all aspects. They have built a championship culture off accountability and effort that SDSU strives to replicate. Congrats to GCU on capping last season off with a championship.

Favorite lacrosse memory?

My freshman year when we made the first national tournament appearance in school history. Overall it was a special team that had great leadership.
__

Who’s the funniest guy in your locker room/team?

Owen schnur aka Schnur Daddy. He’s got a great personality and is always cracking jokes. Definitely helps lighten the mood during tough practices.
__

Favorite non-lacrosse activity to do with your teammates?

Barona. If you know, you know.
__

What’s your go to pump-up song?

Ooooh that’s a tough one. We’ve got a solid warm up playlist this year that gets us hyped. However, if I had to pick just one I’m going with Here Comes The Boom.
__

If you played another sport, what would it be?

Basketball. I played all growing up and through high school. Still love playing pickup whenever I get the chance.
__

Who was your favorite athlete when you were a kid?

Another tough one. My favorite athlete generally changed with the sports season I was in. If you asked 10 year old me I’d probably say top 3 are Allen Iverson, Big Papi, and Baron Davis.
