Welcome back! Our big boy jobs have made things a little quiet on our end but we’re back to bring you that varsity content you need going into your college lacrosse Saturday.
As always, thanks to @LaxVegasLines on Twitter for the lines and Inside Lacrosse for compiling the stream links.
We in there: #8 Notre Dame @ #2 Maryland (-2), 11 AM
WATCH: BTN
Let’s go baby! The Irish face their first big test in College Park. They took care of business against Richmond and Detroit Mercy, a couple of solid teams, but from here on out, Corrigan’s boys face a brutal schedule. After this game against the defending champions, they face the entire ACC plus Denver, OSU, Michigan, Marquette and Army. Maryland will be a good barometer to see if ND can keep up with the big dogs all year.
Also I’m going to be up in there and at Bentley’s afterwards so follow along on Twitter or hit me up if you’re in College Park.
Prediction: Maryland by a narrow margin in an instant classic.
Noon Slot: Jacksonville @ #16 Vermont (-2.5), 12 PM
A couple of this season’s pleasant surprises face off up north. If you’re a fan of underdogs and growing the game (if you have a heart), you’ll tune into this one. JU is strong and almost pulled off a program win against Ohio State last week. They limited the Buckeyes’ runs to keep it close and held Tre Leclaire to zero goals in the first three frames before allowing him a hat trick in the fourth. The two things you can’t do against Vermont are let them get out to an early lead and let their superstar get hot. The Dolphins are going to need a flawless 60 minutes of lacrosse to pull this one off.
Prediction: Vermont by 3. They’re too well-coached and too stingy on defense. I fully believe they will crack the top ten this month.
There are too many good games on at 1 to pick so here are three predictions:
Penn State 9 – #14 Penn 7 – Nittany Lions get back on track with bragging rights on the line
#7 Villanova 16 – Delaware 15 (OT) The Hens’ explosive offense pushes ‘Nova to the edge but the Wildcats escape with more OT heroics.
Bucknell 14 – Navy 12 The Herd keep rollin’ right into a unanimous national ranking.
Because why leave the couch now? #15 Rutgers (-1) @ Brown, 4 PM
Both teams have suffered unfortunate injuries early this season. But Rutgers is still a very dangerous team, with experience and depth all over the field. Having this game during a lull in the action will be a great opportunity for most of the lacrosse world to check them out for the first time. As always, if you have a login, DM’s are open.
Prediction: Scarlet Knights win and cover.
Nightcap: #20 Princeton at #18 Hopkins, 6 PM
This is a wonderful time slot. I wish they moved some of those 1 pm starts later on. But that’s a different blog. Last week, the ACC reigned supreme (per usual) over these teams and they’ll both be looking to fight back.
Prediction: Jays 15, Tigers 11. After facing U-Va’s barrage last week, Princeton gets lulled to sleep and falls for another Joel Tinney hidden ball trick. Hopkins gets out to a first half lead, doesn’t look back.
