Virginia Tech Knocks off South Carolina to win SELC Title

VTech ChampsIt was an ugly day at Northview High School in Johns Creek, GA. And that was fine by the Hokies.

Virginia Tech, ranked ninth in the national MCLA poll and eighth by us, had their work cut out for them in Sunday’s SELC Championship. The SELC Northwest champs faced undefeated and third-ranked South Carolina, who had rolled through the first two rounds with ease, doubling up Florida and Liberty.

But the Georgia rain was a welcome sight to Virginia Tech, who had played several games in the snow this year in Blacksburg. They grinded through the conditions, leaning on their leaders on offense and an efficient EMO unit. Junior A Noah Dewey and Senior M Danny Riley lit up the stat sheet on their way to All-Tournament honors. Freshman phenom Connor Fries also added a hat trick.

With the win, Virginia Tech punched their ticket to the MCLA Tournament in Salt Lake City. USC can most certainly expect to receive an at-large bid. Liberty, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Georgia will have to anxiously wait to hear their names called.
