As the great John Wooden once said, failing to prepare is preparing to fail. The FIL World Championship game is this Saturday (Friday night) at 3 AM Eastern and if you don’t go into the day with a plan, you just might miss it. And I’m sure ESPN will show a replay Sunday morning but come on guys, you’re better than that.
So here it is, down to the minute: your gameplan for having a Friday and not missing the big showdown. (21+)
9:00 am-12:00 pm Go to work/class/your summer internship. We all wish our professional schedules were more compatible with our sports viewing. It’s just part of life as a sports fan. But we’re here to keep you from doing anything drastic, like burning a PTO day that you don’t need to. Hunker down and trust the timeline.
12:00 pm-1:00 pm Power lunch. Lots of protein and carbs. I’m talking burrito bowl with white rice, triple chicken and nothing else. You’ve got a big night ahead of you so you’d better make those calories count.
1:00 pm Caffeine cutoff. We’re planning a nap. More on that later.
1:00 pm-5:00 pm Finish work. If you have to work past 5 on a summer Friday, we’ll pour one out for you.
5:00 pm-7:30 pm HAPPY HOUR. Hit it as hard as you like. You earned it big guy. Grab some good, filling grub while you’re here too. Quesadillas or nachos at HH will never let you down.
7:30 pm-8:00 pm Uber home, hit the hay. It’ll be hard but resist the urge to keep the party going. But I promise you if you go out tonight, you will not stay awake the entire game. It’s one thing to stay up until 3, but to start a 2.5 hour television program after going out is impossible. Trust us and just go to sleep. Set an alarm for…
2:00 am Wake up. You’re going to be so bleary-eyed and out of it that you want to go back to sleep. Push through and call your partners in crime to make sure they’re up and at ’em.
2:15 am Grub. There are two acceptable choices here: Pizza or breakfast food. Lay down a good base so you can have a couple beers before the game starts.
3:00 am Gametime. You should be energized and ready to cheer on the boys in red, white and blue. Tune into our YouTube Live broadcast for another edition of Kickin’ it with QuickStick, where Brodes and I and whatever other internet pals out there are awake will be giving our commentary and of course playing Anish, Quint and Carc bingo.
It’s coming home.
